Driver points to the aftermath of deadly collision near Bishop’s Falls

Kristianna Forster, visiting Newfoundland and Labrador from Ontario, went through the area just before the collision happened on Wednesday evening.

After visiting Grand Falls-Windsor at about 8:30 p.m., she returned to the Trans-Canada Highway to see several vehicles on the flank of the road — and a fireball in the center of the highway.

Kristianna Forster, visiting Newfoundland and Labrador from Ontario, went through the area just before the collision happened on Wednesday evening

“You see the black mist in the air as you’re driving up, and then you see everything on fire,” Forster stated Friday. “It was within 15 minutes of when I had given there originally, so it was quite a surprise to return to that.”

Forster and other drivers, some of whom launched near the destruction to see if there were any survivors, remained on the scene for about 15 minutes, she said. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said both drivers died in the collision. She said the road was covered with trash following the crash, and both vehicles were engulfed in flames.
