One person died after a scallop ship sank near Harbor Breton.

One died and two are recovering after a scallop ship sank near Harbor Breton on Sunday morning.

After the boat capsized, one of the three onboard landed for help, the Canadian Coast Guard said in a statement.

The Coast Guard allocated mayday, and rescuers said they found one of the others alive.

This person is currently recovering at the hospital. The body of the third person was recovered on a fallen ship.

“Our idea lies in the deceased’s family and survivors,” the statement said. Several ships participated in the search, including two Coast Guard vessels, a local boat, and a cormorant search and rescue helicopter from Gander.
